The Negative Forty Third And Three Tenths Hungry Shames

First entry in the Hunger Games spinoffs contest!

The Negative Forty Third And Three Tenths Hungry Shames

Ten... nine... eight... seven... I stood on my plaque, awaiting the gong. I know my strategy. Run in the wake of another competitor, most likely Tasha who is to my left, so I don't have to open the Media Center door. Once at the Media Center I will grab a weapon, any works, and run towards the Galaxy room, where I will meet my three teammates. I never thought that I would have to kill off my classmates to stay alive. Oh why did Mrs. Borchers have to rule all twelve Districts in Pancake? If Mr. Hanson was our ruler I wouldn't be here, I thought. I will strangle Mrs. Borchers if it's the last... My thoughts were stopped by a loud squawking noise. The Hungry Shames had begun.

I instantly stopped dreaming and followed Tasha. All the supplies were laid out in the middle of the Media Center. Kids streamed in from all sides. I see Henry run towards me. I get ready to punch him in the head, but he isn't going for me. Henry grabbed a broad sword and then I hear Tasha scream. I can't be a victim of the blood bath. I run towards the rest of the weapons. The next weapon I see is an unloaded pistol laying by a beanbag. I ran to it, but Kevin was headed for it too. Our eyes locked for a second before he tried to kick me in the gut. I dodged it and grabbed his foot, slamming him in to a wall. I then grabbed the pistol and searched for ammo. I saw a pistol clip laying about three feet from me. After grabbing it I darted out the Computer Lab doors.

I was not the first one in the Galaxy room. When I entered Colden was crouched behind a chair. "Hey Colden." I said.
"Hey," he responded. "I got a knife and a ton of food in a pack. What about you?"
"I got a pistol and one clip." We turn to the sound of footsteps in the hallway. "Get down." Colden whispers. The door flings open and Christo stands in the doorway. "Brendan? Colden?" He asks. We pop up and welcome him. "We have a pistol with five clips, food and a knife." Colden says "What do you have?"
"A backpack that I haven't opened and a gash on my cheek." He turns so we can see a long cut on his left cheek.
"What little ... did this?!" I ask.
"Gavin, he chased my down and barely got me as I cut across by the B Wing stairs. I don't think he followed me." Christo responds. There is a silence and then Colden speaks up. "Shall we look in the pack?" Christo nods and opens it. Inside there is a First Aid kit, a hatchet and food. "Looks like we're set." I say.
"Where's Jacob?" Christo wonders aloud after putting a bandage on his cut. Jacob! He was supposed to team with us! Who knows what the poor kid is going through right know? "They will announce who has died over the intercom in," Colden looks at the clock, "forty three minutes." Has it been only seventeen minutes since the start of the Games? Wow. Feels like hours.

We sit playing cards with a deck we found in a basket. After forty three minutes we here Mr. Larson. "Hey DA! Six of your friends died! How exciting! They were killed in the following order: Tasha, killed by Henry, Emery, killed by Zachary B, Ryan, killed by Gavin, Henry, killed by Nathan, Danny, killed by Gavin and last Promise, killed by Christopher. Alrighty then! Happy killing!!" Christo starts to talk "Jacob is alive, but where?" His question is answered as someone runs by and kicks the door. We all turn to see a panicked Jacob being chased by Gavin. I start to run out by Christo holds me back. "I got a bone to pick with him, let me go." He says. Grabbing his hatchet, he runs out. A few seconds later Christo comes back with Jacob, a bloody hatchet and a bloodier spear. "I chased down Gavin for a few yards," Christo starts "then Gavin stumbled and tripped I chopped my hatchet down on his head. I called out to Jacob and told him to come over to me." Then he turns to Jacob. "What did you do before this?" He asks.
"Well I started out by running to the Galaxy room, but I saw Nathan and Henry fighting. Nathan won and I darted down the B Wing stairs before he could see me. Down there I saw Gavin run his spear through Danny's head. I winced and Gavin heard me. Luckily Christo saved my butt or my blood would be on that spear too..." On that happy note we turn back to cards.

Three minutes later the door creaks open. A gun barrel is pointed at us. I scatter as a shotgun blast rings in my ears. My adrenaline My hand shifts to my pistol. It feels awkward in my hands. I have never fired a gun before. As the owner of the shotgun reloads I see their face. Tommy. At least it isn't a friend of mine. I squeeze the trigger. Blood splatters on the ground and Tommy lies dead. My foot touches something warm and wet. I look and see that it's blood. My blood. I looked down to see a pellet from Tommy's shotgun in my thigh. My adrenaline must've propelled me through till now. My vision blurred and I fainted.

.  .  .

I woke up to Jacob's voice. "Hey," he says, "they announced who died five minutes ago. Matthew, Gavin, and Tommy." I look down at my thigh to see my that my gray pants turned red. I peel them off and see a small hole in my leg. "Christo?" I say. "Can I see that first aid kit?" I use a pair of tweezers to get out the pellet. "Should we adventure onward and get the Shames done with?" Colden asks.
"Sure," we reply.

Our little team heads towards the C Wing. We check first in Mrs. Nelson's room and find no one. Nobody was hiding in Mrs. Moen's room, either. In Mrs. Peterson's room we had luck. Christopher is sitting reading with a machete by his side. Matthews corpse is lying next to him. I pull out my pistol, but I can't shoot. I think of everything I hate and am soon full of anger. I nail Christopher and he drops down. I don't have the time to be ashamed of myself as someone barges in the door. Zach M stood in the doorway, a knife in hand. He lunged at Christo and I steadied my aim to fire, but couldn't. I threw myself in front of Christo, tossing my gun aside. The knife impales me and my world fades.......
